The HK Admiralty’s Golden Bell/
Next to Wanchai, Admiralty was named after the British has built a dock for their navy's activities in the Far East in the mid-late 19th century. Hongkongers at that time call Admiralty as 金鍾, means “golden bell”.
Talking about the “time” of Hong Kong, people always relate to the clock tower in Tsim Sha Tsui. However, in older times, Admiralty was the one on the spot because of a huge golden bronze bell. On the road that is currently named Queensway (formerly East of Queen’s Road), near Lippo Centre and Golden Bell Gallery, there was this Golden Bronze Bell hanging on a building called Rodney Building. It would ring every noon and afternoon to signal soldiers, civilians and workers about the lunchtime and office off time. Therefore, people at that time loved to check the time at Admiralty with this Golden Bell, and, thus, Admiralty has become the "金鐘Golden Bell" that we know today.
